MORE ABOUT THE FILM
A striking portrait of the education system in post-recession America, “If You Build It” follows the efforts of innovative teaching duo Emily Pilloton and Matt Miller as they teach the fundamentals of architectural design to high school students in rural North Carolina. Beset by unemployment and a limited education budget, Bertie County turns toward these educational pioneers to show kids the power of design. They challenge the students to develop a final project that will provide for the local community in generations to come. It is an inspiring and sobering look at the transformative power of education and the hurdles faced in order to deliver it.
