ACTION ALERT - SUMMER YOUTH JOBS CAMPAIGN
The Milwaukee Common Council is conducting four neighborhood listening sessions on the 2009 City Budget. We are seeking to send 20-30 of our members to each of these sessions to support our proposal to expand the Summer Youth Jobs Program. Please respond to Carol Treadwell at carol.treadwell@commongroundwi.org if you can attend.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Our team in Grafton and Ozaukee County is now working to convince the city
of Grafton to support the proposal of the local Habitat for Humanity to build
four units of housing on a one acre lot donated to Habitat.

CRIME & GRIME
Two teams are now beginning neighborhood walks in the Amani and Sherman Park neighborhoods. They will be identifying eyesores and crime spots in need of attention.

YOUTH SUMMER JOBS
The Jobs Committee is completing research on the City of Milwaukee’s Earn & Learn program for summer jobs for high school age youth. The preliminary evaluation is that this program is in need of management and recruitment upgrades and expansion. Recommendations for improvement are being developed.

HEALTH CARE
The Health Care Reform Committee is launching a campaign to enlist small businesses, self employed people and non-profit organizations to join a Health Insurance Cooperative which will lower premiums, control rate increases and give more power to insure employees and negotiate with Health Insurance companies and Health Care providers.
